Does the "New" Marx (1990s) run on AC or DC?

They are like most modern era trains. A DC can motor with a circuit board to handle the AC to DC conversion and allow reversing. Smooth runners, just don't slam the throttle shut. No flywheel so instant stop
I have quite a few of them and really like them.

Thanks, Steve! I have one coming and i am looking forward to it with great anticipation! I did a bit of reading on the New Marx Yahoo group, and note that you recommend using modern transformers with these rather than vintage.

I tend to use modern transformers all the time even on original Marx. The fast blow circuit breakers are a must with electronics and grandkids. Also the near zero start voltage makes for a better running range than with a 7V start up. Just be careful not to use too much voltage.
I have 30+ New Marx power units, and have only had problems with a couple.

Received the "New Marx" today. It's a very nice outfit, although I do note a suspicious looking circuit board..... It runs much smoother and quieter than an original Marx CP style locomotive, but does not reflect the "build quality" of the original, IMHO. Lighter weight tin! (Kinda like the difference between a 55 Chevy and 2014 Chevy.) This one is an all black PRR locomotive with litho on the sides panels, and a top mounted headlight. Tender has the spotlight on the rear deck. I assume it was part of a work train set...
Steve, I see what you mean about not closing the throttle too quick...Really stands it on it's nose!

PRR was in a many of sets they made, with and without the lighted tender. The gray on is a tough one to find.
