April's Signs Finalized

April's new releases have now been finalized. Our last design for April's release is unique and one we have been considering for quite while: a universal Entrance sign! It is a true 3D sign and quite versatile. Although appearing simple, it has taken us quite a while to figure out how to produce it. Its configuration now opens up the way for some unique designs that will be coming in the near future. Back to our Entrance sign:

      Bob's

This sign works for both HO and O scales. The image above shows two figures, HO on the left, O scale on the right, to give you a feeling for the size of the sign. The overlay shown is our tribute to all those who have worked so hard on their layouts! Makes the perfect greeting when all your loyal fans come to visit your layout! Don't worry if your name is not "Bob" - we have included 68 other names. If your name is not there, we tell you how to make your own as well as how to create other entrance names.

  group         labels names

The kit comes with a rather extensive set of peel and stick overlays (as shown above), including quite a few names for customization. Surely with the imagination of our customers, many other creative uses will be found for this unique sign. The sign comes pre-assembled, tested and ready-to-run. All that is needed is to cut a small rectangular hole in the mounting surface, then drop the sign in and you are good to go. We even provide a template for the hole cutting.

This is a limited edition sign; so if you would like to reserve one drop us an e mail at:

Quick tech note here: Several of our customers have ranted to us about the difficulty of gluing the plastic supports that come with many of the sign we sell. If this sounds familiar, check out our tutorial on gluing them HERE. Almost any medium viscosity super glue will work; but you must use accelerator! This causes the glue to set up instantly. If you don't use the Accelerator, you will hate the glue and supports. Your hobby store can help you out with this. The brand recommended on our web site is just one of many.

Until our next newsletter, stay warm and

pray for an early Spring

Please remember all our new signs are

Hi Don,
The price is $58.95. I forgot to update our web site after the Newsletter was sent. Got to stop working so late, sorry. It  has since been updated.
Sincerely,
Chris

BAZINGA!!!

My wife's sentiments, exactly, Nicole!

Since you can't print all things to satisfy all people, how about a different idea???...

How about an APP in the package that would take the purchaser to a site where you could load in your own name(s), entrance title, ....whatever..., limited, of course, in number of lines, size/styles of font, etc. to fit the marquee area.  Once satisfied, you could have your own printer print it out complete with 'cut-lines'.

So, then EVERYONE could be happy!!

I (we) definitely will be ordering/purchasing this one!!!!

Very cool Chris. I am in for at least one. Hope they are at York.

I am no MS Office wizard but was able to make my own sign using the Word Art utility in MS Powerpoint in about ten minutes. Print it on a transparency using a laser printer and Bob's your uncle.

An App, online link, or font download if not a typical MS Word font would be very worthwhile.  If the graphics come on a specialized decal type "paper" and not the easily obtainable and affordable clear school/office transparency sheets, another consideration would be to include a blank "paper" for those who wish to customize.  Aside from the attraction names, it might be worthwhile to provide no given/personal names but rather more blank sheets?

And why are their three versions of the name Al (Al, Alan, & Allan) offered?  I can't believe that name is so popular.

One of those law firms that do the television commercials would probably make it into a sexual discrimination lawsuit for you. LOL.

One of my sons was left off, too ..... Andrew or Drew or Andy.

Of course, Miller Eng are great people. They gave me some help with their Experimenter Kits when I was incorporating my sons' names on my layout.

I'm kinda stumped on whether to get one or not based on this sentence in the documentation:

"All that is needed is to cut a small rectangular hole in the mounting surface, then drop the sign in and you are good to go. "

Since I only have a Christmas floor layout, on Homasote, does that mean that it can't stand "free-standing"??  I change my layout every year and will not cut a new hole each year to place it.

thanks - walt

Give Chris a call and ask him or whoever answers the phone at Miller Engineering. They will be happy to answer any questions or listen to suggestions. A great company that still talks and listens to it's customers. Lionel and MTH could benefit by the same business principle.

Walt,

I wondered about the "hole" thinking is was just for the connector pin to slip through.  So I wrote Chris and he answered almost immediately - as he always does.  But he said the hole was 4" by 3/4"!  Now I am stumped as to what it is for, but unfortunately at the location I was thinking of for the sign a hole of that size just will not work.

Here you go Nicole. 5 minutes with Powerpoint.

Thanks Pete. I wasn't really commenting on the lack of my name though. Reading through the list of names I could only see 2 female names, and one of those was androgynous. But thanks again for your effort. I have downloaded the image and will be sure to use it.
