JohnB posted:The Veterans Engine in Railking is a Dash 8. I know the rules for Railking are more open than for the Premier Line but a EMD engine would be a little more realistic. Even if the Railking line does not have a mold for a SD60E a SD60 or even a SD70Ace would have been a better choice. Then again I do not buy Railking engines (or even MTH engines) so it is not a issue to me.

MTH did do an NS Veterans and First Responders SD70ACe/caboose speciality set (I think 2 years ago now) in the RTR catalog. People who like GEs and like the paint will buy them, as happens with most of these quasi-fantasy special paints. In my (limited) experience, folks who are buying Railking or buying speciality paints usually do not set as high a priority on rivet-counting, so much as getting a unified train.
While I can't order anything, a few things jumped out at me:
- There was definitely a play to the Pittsburgh-area market again this catalog; not only was there a Railking AVR SD45, but also a Carload Express MP15AC (which appears on the AVR occasionally) and the first Monongahela unit in many moons (Bicentennial GP38-2). Now if only MTH would reissue the black versions not done since PS2...
- The C40-8s are something I thought MTH was going to do two catalogs ago, and which I welcome, especially the Pan Am units. However (that cursed word), I would have liked MTH to offer the NS units in the older Thoroughbred scheme, without the white cab fronts and Horsehead logo. It's been a while since we've seen anything in that paint, a mainstay of the 1980s.
- The Bradleys, as several folks have remarked previously, are intriguing.
- I'm surprised more people are not excited about the Premier UP/CP 4-4-0s or the DL-109s; I have seen several folks requesting both of these models. Perhaps, in the case of the latter, Golden Spike Fever has died down?
- The SD24s and the EMD Demo SD70M are also intriguing.
