You folks are going to be sorry that I got back into the hobby..Recently purchased a new MTH Railking PS3 USRA B6 Switcher. Been operating it for about a month now without issues. It stopped on a dirty track piece and has not started up since. I ran other engines successfully on the layout to eliminate any change electrically. The first couple times that I powered up the track under the engine, there was a click, click noise. Read somewheres that even with new engines, the batteries were not fully charged and am hoping that is all it is. Until I hear some opinions, am reluctant to open up the engine in case of warranty. The hobby shop I bought it from, has since closed down...Bummer..Michael

There is NO BATTERY in PS3 models. There is a capacitor that will automatically "charge up" within less than a minute of applying track power.
Now,,,,,,are you trying to operate this model in DCS, or conventional?
If command delete from the remote and try adding again.. As Hot Water mentioned....anything working in conventional mode?
DCS mode and layout is not wired for conventional as I use bricks only as power sources. Engine worked fine for a month till this morning, then totally dead...Is recognized in remote, but will not respond. Michael
Try deleting and re-loading the engine. Make sure no other engine is on the track when trying to load any engine with DCS. With PS-2 if two engines were on the track at the same time they both got the same ID.

You could turn off the DCS and apply the track voltage to it in a place where it won't fly off the layout...and see if the sounds start up. I'm guessing that it starts out in neutral anyway, but just in case.
...Is recognized in remote, but will not respond. Michael
Did you delete and add again??? if it adds try a feature reset.. Menu/Advanced/ reset engine/ feature reset.
If completely dead it could be just about anything . disconnected or loose plugs to circuit board. Too bad you can't try conventional. The engine should start as mentioned in neutral.
Last try..When I turn on the layout power, I receive a cackling sound from the tender. Finally did a delete, but engine cannot be found. The last operating the engine did was to go over a very dirty track section sparking a bit and then shut down. Dead since...Does not sound good..Michael
Time for Warranty work... But where? Is MTH only Michael's option?
I would try a conventional reset bring voltage up to around 9.0 to 10 volts without tiu in circuit and then 1 whistle and 5 bells in 1/2 second intervals if the conventional reset works you will get two whistle toots and then the engine should work correctly,. you have to practice with the 1/2 second in intervals but once you get it you will hear the 2 whistle toots then try the engine in conventional mode ok

sometimes when you get sparks or shorts is causes board problems but try the conventional reset first it is defiantly worth a try might save you from having to send the engine back ok

Just tried a conventional setup. Found a MTH transformer and created loop. Engine still dead except for a clicking sound at high voltage that I tracked to an electrically overstimulated rear coupler. Nothing else responds. Tried another engine just to troubleshoot loop and that engine worked fine in conventional..Michael
Stop powering the board. Sounds like the tender board is shot. Shorting the coupler. It may be burned up too. G
I will look for the closest MTH tech shop to get repaired. My local hobby shop shut down recently....Thanks for all the replies. Michael
