Well this Amtrak got cancelled a while back and the matching dummy:

I'm kind of wondering what will be in the new catalog? Maybe just new paint schemes?

Will it be introduced at York? G gauge spring York?

There was a big down turn in G gauge sales supposedly a few years back, and now I'm waiting to see what they'll come up with.

I would really like to see Amtrak Superliner set in G scale.  I told Charlie Ro at one of the York meets that he should do it.  LOL he didn't say no.  Also, I'd like to see someone do a big boy in 1:29 scale.  And I don't mean one for $3,500 either.  If someone could do one in ABS and keep cost down to around $1,200 I'd definitely pick one up.  Wander what I'd have to put up investment wise (dollars) and quantity to get big boys (affordable ones) made in G scale?  I'll have to talk to Charlie about that.

BTW, don't forget the G scale show at York in March.  I think it's March 22 and 23.

Enginear-Joe, do you ever get to the G scale meets at York?

Rick

Good Day Joe,

I inquired on the MTH facebook the 1st of January.

Good Day MTH,

When is the next RailKing One Gauge catalog being presented?

Regards, Swafford

MTH Electric Trains: I believe we will begin working on a 2013 Catalog soon Mr Swafford. MTH is currently finishing up S Gauge and 2013 RTR Catalogs. Thank you for the question. January 3 at 8:42am • Like

Swafford: Good Day, Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I'd like to make a suggestion.......... The EMD SD70ACe in RailKing One Gauge would be fantastic! Regards, Frank Swafford January 3 at 10:16am • Like

 Thanks Allan.

Go Frank!!! there's been several guesses of what they meant by another modern diesel. I too hope it's an ACe.

Rick, yeap I was at one several years back. MTH already released their Big Boy in 1/32. I doubt if they'll do another in 1/29. There also was talk about maybe they should have went with 1/29 scale instead, when they entered G scale. I think it was fine. I think they shouldn't have abandoned it so soon. If they had released a 1/32 scale autocarrier and more modern larger cars, they might have made a bigger impact. Everyone complained about the smaller 1/32 scale releases. Their first large steamers sold out and are hard to find. People didn't accept their Erie triplex as expected I think. There was some trouble with the slave boards and some operators don't know how their system works. More older diesels came out and older operators already shyed away from their products. So they said the market's soft.

With their new boards DCC ready, no battery, no polarity switches, there should be wider acceptance I think. Everybody in G scale runs a different control system. It's great that MTH engines will run with so many different ones.

Now if they just would release 1/4 of the products that the do in HO or O....... or give me something!!

You're not alone.  There are a number of Large Scale folks out there hoping that MTH comes out with something new and/or more product.  They have a good chance to make a mark in that segment now from a competitive standpoint, and seem to be missing out on the opportunity.

The 1:32 scale is fine with me since it is the correct scale.  I don't own any MTH Large Scale, but if they had offered more in the way of smaller motive power, I certainly would have been on board.

if MTH does release another catalog, i hope they make some better product decisions.  i think they initially got a few things right, but a few things wrong.

they chose the correct scale (1:32) for #1 gauge track (45mm), but then produced over half their rolling stock with fantasy names (M&M's, Harley Davidson, etc), something that probably appeals more to the fantasy 1:29 scale crowd.

i have two #1 gauge, 1:32 scale freight locomotives and there is barely a handful of 1:32 scale rolling stock out there currently available.  MTH and Accucraft are the two largest in this scale and neither has produced a major run of cars in years.

MTH...

1) come up with one or two small 1:32 scale steam locomotives.  you've done the Hudson to death; the GS4 was nice, but big; ditto on the Big Boy and Challenger.  i'd fire the person who thought the Erie Triplex would appeal to more than even a few Erie fans.  what you need is an 0-4-0 switcher or Atlantic, of course, in 1:32.  this would get the 1:32 scale into the smaller radius layouts; something that is always a problem with large steam.

don't think people won't pay just as much as a small locomotive than for a large one.  most people should realize it takes only a fraction less to build a 4-4-2 than a 4-8-4, but with the increased operational capability, it would be worth it as far as i'm concerned.

2) i understand that the fantasy cars probably help pay some bills, but please produce more roadnames with actual car liveries.  we do not care if they are all boxcar brown if that is the way they originally appeared.  there are plenty of references out there to get it right.

3) get rid of the action cars (helo, dump cars).  again, they would more likely appeal to the fantasy 1:29 scale groups.  they have no place behind a #1 scale locomotive.

4) you have the boxcar and flat, now you need the other basics...  52' gondola, 40' wood reefer, 10000gal tank, 36' hopper.  you can do those to death for a decade and not repeat a roadname.

5) a couple more caboose shapes wouldn't hurt.

I wonder if that was a higher up mgt type person?  They have announced several things mentioned. A single channel TIU, a small steamer, some modern diesel was a maybe?

I just wonder if they said it's (G scale) not the right direction? I had expected many more releases.

I don't pick on the fantasy stuff. They just used the molds and tried whatever would sell. If no one bought it.....oh well. I bet some did. I almost bought the M&M's trailer and coal hopper just because they were in stock. I finally bought the dump cars and the helo. I will play with them too. I would have preferred modern freight.

I would guess DC track power. Many locos are conventional and need upgrading to DCC, DCS or battery. I bet wireless w/battery is coming up fast with all the products geared towards it's use. It overcomes a lot of the troubles outside.

I run DC power into my DCS system myself, through the stainless track. I just switched from AC. I didn't like some of the drawbacks of battery at the time.
