Looking for some advice from the forum. I just received the new heavy pacific from MTH. It is great and everything works with the exception of speed control. The engine will accelerate to full speed upon increasing speed demand to 3-4 SMPH with no chuffing sounds. All other sounds, lights, and smoke are working fine.

I understand that the cause is likely a defective tach reader or wiring to said tach reader. The tach tape appears in good condition from what I can see without removing the shell.

Anyone else have this issue?

My main question is this. Would you recommend self servicing, MTH repair (does it exist?), or other? Any advise would be appreciated. I am not a stranger to servicing MTH diesels, however this would be my first steamer. What a bummer on my first steamer by the way! Oh well, these things happen.
