I'm thinking about adding the new MTH Premier 20-3481-2 PS3 Challenger with scale wheels to my roster so I can run it in 2 rail DCC mode at home and 3 Rail DCS mode on the club layout.  Anybody heard the whistle?  Is it "accurate."

Any other pertinent comments on these engines?  Sound good? Operate well?

Thanks, Bill

Sorry Bill, but we had a family tragedy this past July, and my wife and I are simply not up to it this year. I will still be at the March Meet, with the Sunset/3Rd Rail/Golden Gate Depot display, so stop and say hello. We might try again for 2015.

I'm not surprised the MTH Challenger will take a tight radius. I'd think the limiting factor would be all of those wheels on the tender. A UP FEF has some big drivers and a longer driver wheelbase.

I have MTH As and Js and they'll easily negotiate a radius in the 40s. The same for some Sunset Ys.

If you could post a photo or video that would be pretty cool to see in action.

Austin Bill -

It will be interesting to see what MTH tells your dealer.  MTH catalogued this model (3711) with the correct oil tender but produced it with the (incorrect) coal tender.  It is a nice model that I was contemplating purchasing but that decision is up in the air at the moment due to the coal vs. oil tender issue.  When it was shown in the catalog with an oil tender, I was 100 % on board with getting the 3711 model but now, undecided.  I wonder what happened between the cataloguing and production phases that caused MTH to make such a large deviation from the historical 3711.
