BTW you can load PS2 sound files in PS3 engines but not vice-versa

Now THAT's an interesting little factoid. Any ill-effects or incompatibilities detected so far? Any luck lifting a PS3 file from the engine?

I'm assuming you'd have to load a 3V PS/2 file, or can you even use a 5V PS/2 file in a PS/3 locomotive?

I emailed Dave Hikel about using PS2 files in a PS3 engine and he said.

No, PS3 engines have to get PS3 sound files.  The memory addresses for the audio clips are different. 

So there you have it.

That makes more sense, I was dubious that would actually work.

Sorry, guys, however you can put a 3 volt PS2 file in a PS3 engine. I originally thought that it wouldn't work, however, that came to me straight from MTH.

The PS3 speed characteristics are not affected since PS3 engines have their speed parameters outside of the sound file, in Flash memory.

I'll back up Barry by saying I've done it..put a PS2 file into a PS3 board. Only problem I had was the quilling whistle won't work but I can live without that.

Copying or lifting a PS3 file works well..it just takes a awhile..like 40 - 45 minutes for a 3.5mb file.

I used the GP-30 file, good turbo and horn.

Perhaps that's because the quilling whistle requires specific hardware.

Interesting statement, exactly what difference do you observe doing this?  I ask because it does take a bit of time doing it on my test track with AC.

It takes about 1/4 of the time
