In the local Cumberland Md newspaper, it's been reported that the county is going to insert in

a nine million bond, a million of which is for the repair of the slide at Woodcock Hollow. Also, since the repair is

slated to cost even more, the State Road Authority is also allowing $400,000 for repair, because

it also effects the Great Allegany Trail.

I walked up to the slide area last week, and one can see other repairs made in the past to near this

spot.

This slide was not caused by old mining, it is a shift of the limestone base, or bedrock, under the

trail and the WMSR track.

They hope to have this done by early spring of 2017.

It's kind of interesting that when the trail was first proposed there were a lot of people, myself included, that thought it might mean the end of the railroad. The trail has now successfully  coexisted with the railroad for several years. It would also seem that the county is now willing to spend more money on the railroad they might not have had the trail not been there.

I had mentioned this before.  Part of the Railroad trip to Frostburg is the bike trail/ride.  Bikes can be rented not far from the Cumberland station, or you can bring your own bikes.  Price of a ticket, the bikes are loaded in the baggage car for the ride to Frostburg.  You can bike the 15 miles back to Cumberland.   The trail and railroad co-exist well, IMO.   My grandson and I, a 2012 bike ride back to Cumberland.   Click on the link.
