In reading the latest OGR magazine the subject of Editor's Corner by Allen Miller caught my eye.  For some reason, maybe being old, I also tend to shy away from social media like Facebook.  I seem challenged enough with getting things done on this forum and locating things on the web.  So this article by Allen has inspired me to make an attempt to use Facebook as my Granddaughters keep after me to post pictures of my trains there for them.  I figure if Allen could do it I might be able to also.

Allen mentions in his article that he is a volunteer at a local animal Shelter and uses Facebook in an attempt to find forever homes for dogs and cats located at the shelter.  I would like to commend Allen for his work at his animal shelter.  I also do volunteer work at my local humane society shelter, mostly walking dogs, cleaning their enclosures and donating food for the animals there.  I didn't realize how many animals, both cats and dogs were being euthanized because no home could be found for them.

I know there is a connection here on the forum with our pets, many times viewing threads and photo's with a members dogs or cats and knowing that they are a real part of their family, their 4 legged children.  Maybe we can do more in 2015 to help animals, like Allen, doing volunteer work at forum members local animal shelters.  So many volunteer's are needed and it is a worthwhile cause indeed.

PTC Brian,

I share your feelings as well. Social Media is a good thing for others. I've been enjoying life out of the spotlight for a while now.

I admire what Allan is doing. For sometime now (10+ yrs) I give every month to the ASPCA.

God Bless,

When I was looking for a new dog I discovered people like Allen post photos of dogs for adoption at their shelter on Craigslist. I saw a dog that appealed to me at a dog catcher in a town about 40 minutes away and went and adopted her.

My terrier mix plays and gets along great with my Border Collie I already had. I think she would be kind of timid but my Border Collie is so forceful I think he has taught her how to be a dog.

I will do it again when the time comes.
