Vertex Railcar Corp of Wilmington, N.C. shipped its first 30 cars [covered hoppers] this week. The company is located in an abandoned factory and has a new spur that connects to CSX. According to the news report Vertex has orders for 4,000 railcars including tankers that meet the Governments new safety upgrades.

Glad to see an investment and upstart of a new railcar fabrication shop in the States, we lost a number of freight railcar car manufacturers in the late 70's and early 80's, either by closings or mergers. Now we need American investments in upstart domestic railcar fabrication for heavy and light rail commuter passenger cars. Infusion in growth and developement of both freight and passenger cars manufacturing will provide good paying jobs and benefits for white and blue collar employees. Hopefully this a start in the redevelopment of our manufacturing job sector in the States.
