Jeff is one of the owners, ….I made a pretty major purchase right before Christmas, in the midst of them trying to open the store,…..Jeff made sure I was taken care of from start to finish, and even followed up once he’d seen my engine was delivered,…..excellent service, down to earth folks, …..I’d certainly purchase from them again, ……I hope the store does well,…..

I have bought from Jeff (one of the owners) over the last couple years when they were more of an on line presence only to just made a purchase this week.  One thing I like when dealing with whomever is a good level of customer service or just simply getting back to me on an inquiry.   They provide both and have a mix of product from pre, post and modern items.  If you cant visit in person recommend calling as they have more inventory then what is online.   Great store and individuals.

No worries Paul. I was driving a 18' box truck. It was a Volvo with turbo diesel....that #$%@ could move.

I know of two major players on Long Island, Trainland/Trainworld and Nassau Hobby Center.  Who are the other two?

Kross Hardware in West Babylon (Tommy)

And now, NY Electric Trains in Manorville

Willis Hobbies in Mineola sells trains too. Not as much as they used to (mostly RC cars now) but they are still plugging along.

Were you supposed to get a discounted price?…..if not, there’s two letters you can put together to stop that…… N & O …..they spell NO,…ie; no thank you, or no, I don’t want it,….😉

I couldn't say "no" ... the heart wants, what the heart wants.

They had it. I wanted it. I paid more than the current Atlas list price of this engine. Much more than the list price at the time Atlas actually offered this particular roadname. Free market capitalism. lol

Last time I was at Kross Hardware Tommy told me he was cutting back on the train business. Haven't been there in over five years, but used to purchase a lot of trains from there.

Haven't been to NY Electric Trains, but I think I saw  a post recently about them on this forum.  Don't they sell mostly preowned and older modals?

Willis Hobbies sells very little train stuff these days, some O gauge and HO, but mostly RC modes as mentioned above.

I need to check out Bayshore Hobbies.

Last time I was at Willis I had asked one of the guys what happened. He said they barely made it through the Covid lockdowns and had to make some tough decisions or close completely. He was already selling more RC so they went all in.
They sold off the nice layout they had in the window and cleared out the 2nd floor of the building with plans to rent it out.

I was at Willis Hobbies a few months ago. They got rid of the two layouts in the front and the overhead layout. I think the store was bought by one of the customers. I think I saw the old owner in the back by the train counter with a dwindling supply. I’ve shopped at this store on and off for 50 years. They used to have a massive layout in the basement and hosted birthday parties, etc. Nassau Hobby in Freeport is a good store as is Trainland in Lynbrook. I bought my first O scale engine at Kross Hardware. I’ll check out Bayshore Hobbies.
