One of my R-27 cars had one door open than it stayed open. All the other doors worked fine. When the shell was removed, one of the dog bones had popped out of the shaft sleeve. Upon further looking it seemed the sleeve had slid back a tad on the shaft. Now the sleeve is made of a hard plastic and since it was on the shaft that was connected to the drive motor; it would not be wise to try to pull it back. So the fix is really simple.
one remove the motor involved (remember there are shims under the motor) and then remove the dog bone in question. Insert the dog bone and cut a small amount of 3M electrical tape (cut enough to rap the sleeve multiple times) aft this is done rap the tape with a few strands of copper wire, twist until tight and then one rap with tape around the wire. Place motor back in car and then connect the dog bone to the door operator and poof it works fine . One thing place a very small drop of glue on the back of the sleeve and let it dry this will lock it in place.

I agree that care is needed when picking up the car. The doors are delicate. But when I had to repair my R-27's doors, I was impressed at the robustness of the mechanism: they are metal screw drives. I think the doors were a significant Lionel accomplishment. I just wish they would produce some new subway models with opening doors, but it's been many years since they introduced the R-27s.

I’m not going to get into this petty back and forth. PS I never saw that watch bring joy to small children open and close doors as well as call out station stops…..or does it …not.

Your the one that made the analogy  I never saw a Lionel subway keep time either.  I cant put a subway on my wrist either.  NOT   so who is petty.

I would rather have the MTH subways actually making those station stops besides announcing them than the overpriced 3 sets that lionel made

I have all three sets and love them, with your request of photos. I am going to shoot a complete service video.
