Got my first 520 box cab locomotive yesterday. Picked it up off eBay. I don't normally buy much off eBay but the price was right. Really happy with this locomotive. Just need to pick up a replacement paragraph.

Congrats from me (self-appointed and official founder and president of the Friends of the 520 Society!
Believe it or not, this is/was a legitimate enthusiast group, dating back to the AOL Message Board days (that's a long time ago). The 520 was the first locomotive I purchased with my own money back when I was a youngster, and it remains a personal favorite. I also have the K-Line version and had hoped, at one point, that RMT was going to follow through with their plans to do a significantly upgraded model.
You should have no real problem finding a replacement pantograph. If you are going to the TCA Eastern Division's York (PA) Train Meet in Oct., you'll almost certainly find one available there.

Ah, a loco with an almost "cult" following! 😁
Had a 520 years back regret selling it that 027 motor is a good reliable easy to maintain motor.
May buy one again .
I too have discovered these little guys, they and the MUs are a lot of fun. I have three, one original and two re-paints.

Not likely to see Lionel re-introduce those little buggers, although if they were done right they would make great yard switchers.

Fella's, you're being pessimistic.
Why, next week could be the very week that we'll receive emails from RMT announcing: "WAREHOUSE FIND! We found a case of 520's! Only a few road names and when these are gone, THEY'RE GONE!"
Hey, it could happen!

Truly one of my favorites. I don't run it much, probably been 5-6 years, but I have it in a boxed set (outfit# eludes me at the moment) with the hard to find Chun King box car.
I always wanted to see this with two trucks like the prototype. It would have been nice if K-Line or RMT had made theirs like that.

I put together that set (X-150) one car at a time but have been looking for the Chun King box car forever!
