Hi I am new member to the forum but have been reading for awhile. Anyway I recently acquired a postwar Lionel 2353. The problem with it is it keeps tripping the breaker on my transformer. It will run fine alone but when I put the dummy unit or any passenger cars with it it will run a foot or so then it trips the breaker. Everything I can see on it looks fine but I don't know maybe I missing something. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Your transformer may not have enough power to run the whole set from the sounds of it. Did you do just a visual inspection of the engine or did you take it apart to check it out. When was the last time it ran other then you running it. I would grease and oil it but make sure the old grease has not hardened up. Also check the brushes on the motor and the top of the armature to make sure they are not dirty......Paul

Thanks for the replies! The model of the transformer is Lionel 6-03-2934-000. I just grabbed this transformer to test the engine with the cars. All my stuff is packed up now because I am moving. I did give the engine a cleaning and put some lube on it. I did try to add cars to it and it stops running with the dummy unit and just one car. I have not had the shell off I just got it a few days ago.

I was cruising through some info on this engine and saw a service doc on making sure both motors were operating properly. Check the documents here. When you get your stuff out again do the motor test to make sure. 5th page down on the column.

If one of the motors is hanging or not operating properly it could cause the condition that you are experiencing.

Check it and lube the insides before you put real power to it.

Still, these twin motor engines need some amperage.(more than 1.8)
