Excellent! Specific area of operations or just a bit of everything? I always enjoyed the coal lines with the Chessie trains weaving there way through the hills. Some awesome places. 

Very good theme you are pursuing - Milwaukee Road electrification.  The Avery, ID yard has always been interesting, laid out in a narrow river canyon - and which handled steam, diesel and electrics.  Welcome, of course, and looking forward to seeing more of your developing layout and equipment.

   Proto48 Milwaukee electric?  This should yeild some very interesting postings indeed. Not my gig to build that way, but I can appreciate the level of dedication it takes to go proto48.

Yes sir! I am currently working on a set of Box cab electics which My Father was able to Proto 48 the wheel sets. And I am in the middle of painting the car body. I also have a Little Joe and a steeple cab Protoed and running around layout. 

I have models on order from Midwestern Model works and Sunset to help complete the P48 collection. 

I wanted to take on something much different and P48 seemed like a challenge. My Father helped me get into it. 😁

I am also a Milwaukee nut. My favorite loco is the SDL-39. I have several photos taken in Spencer, IA. I wish some one made one but no.

I used to work for the DM&E out of Mason City IA and I worked the B42 out of Emmetsburg, IA that went to Spencer and back. Even went as far as Sheldon where the track now dead ends. So much history. I was able to roll with the Milwaukee’s SD40-2s (IC&E 6300s) on that line as well. 

I’m with ya on the SDL. I know someone out there built a number of them out of Weaver GP38s. They were at the Chicago O scale meet a number of years ago. Beautifully built.

What will you do for a Bipolar?

I don't do electrics, but converting that MLW electric loco had to be a challenge.  You must have some pretty good capabilities at hand since there are no commercial parts.  Did you bring the side frames inbd as well, or just the wheels? Good luck and look forward to more photos and discussions.

Good evening. Depending on the conversion we have done both the wheel and side frame. The pictures I have included are of my Box Cab E50. Here the wheels were turned down from the back side to give the proper tread and flange width. Wheels were popped off the axles and centered on the lathe and cut down to thw proper size. Squared back on the axles and off for testing. The side frames on this electric were not moved in. They can be, but quite a hassle with a pivoting set of side frames. 

I have a Little Joe with a midwestern model works conversion, and a Joe with our conversions. Also have a steeple cab converted. All work very well.

Welcome aboard!

One of my retirement motorcycle dream trips is to hopefully follow the entire 440 miles of the Rocky Mountain Division on my dirt bike someday.  First I have to figure out how to tow it there with my Road King. 

I'm a PRR steam era modeler but I am seriously entertaining proto-lancing a PRR electrifcation in western PA in the vein of Bob Hegge and the CML.

Welcome to the Forum James!!  I live about an hour drive north of Pittsburgh and model Western Maryland and Baltimore & Ohio, steam and early diesel era.  I modeled in HO and N scale since I was about 12, but switched to O gauge Hi-rail 6 years ago.
