I am a late adopter of most technology but could not pass up on a great buy for the older lionel TMCC unit.  Since I have only 3 locos that will function with this anyway, there was no need to move into the technology but the article from Allen Miller a few months back got me thinking.  Anyway I have been using the MRC Dual Power 027 transformer, the one with the walk around controls to power the layout.  I like it for conventional.  However when I hooked up the command base, the response was unsatisfactory.  (slow and unreliable response from the locos)  However, on the workbench using an old LW the response was perfect.  So my question is this.  Is this transformer not recommended for this application or should I be checking my wiring?  I was going to try the 14V fixed posts to see if the response is different.  If that works, is 14V sufficient?

As an aside, I really like the walk around conrols for my conventional stuff since it allows me to move to the other end of the layout (which spans the length of the basement) so if this transformer is a no go, I will have to look into adding a second transformer to the panel with a switch of some sort to change power supplies as needed.  Any comments are appreciated.

it sounds like you now have teh MRC remote and the TMCC remote.  I'm not sure if they do not play well together but in my own experience, I have had no problems down to 15.5v roughly in the TMCC environment.  Also - TMCC can control conventional engines from the remote, you would need a TPC or powermaster.  If your current setup isn't friendly together, you might investigate control of the entire lay out from your TMCC remote.

Thanks,

Well I learned they don't play well together but the fixed voltage post from the MRC unit works just fine.  I simple fix was the installation of a SPDT switch so I can select either the the variable source or fixed.  I also learned that I should have had this years ago.  Oh well live and learn.
