I was looking into doing something a little different and maybe more fun as we shelter in place. I decided to let my postwar Lionel trains stretch their legs on my modern layout. I shut down the MTH power and turned the layout over to the '50s. You will see 10 trains in 9 minutes culminating in a 1950 773 Hudson pulling an 11 car unit train of 6464 series box cars. Enjoy! TJ

Wow! Great video!
I love seeing the classics in scale settings and its great to see your layout again!
Great video, Terry! The shutdown sequences in the beginning were a neat touch to introducing the classics!

Awesome - going to have to watch that a few more times - that’s real Railsounds 👍🏼😊🚂
Very cool. Those old choo choo’s look right at home.
Thank you for sharing. Nothing warms the heart like a postwar air whistle.
Wow that’s amazing! Thanks for taking the time to put that video together!!!
Nice video, thanks for posting. Did you use a EVO for your tracking shots? Don
WOW! Post-war all the way. After looking at that who needs scale. Great video. Thanks for the treat!😃😃😃😃
Extend my complements to the train chef, your 10 course "postwar" dinner was outstanding. Will there be a cigar and port afterwards?
enjoy toy trains...
Simply outstanding!
Running conventional Postwar trains, I can see the joy on the faces of children and adults as they ran their empire many years ago ! Thankyou !

LOL, I'm flattered Don! No, I shot the video with a Sony 4K FDR-AX53 which has a robust active balanced optical video stabilizer mode (Sony's SteadyShot). The camera was in one hand and an old MTH Z-4000 Remote #40-4001 was in my other hand. I handheld those tracking shots. One of the problems with the postwar trains is the lack of cruise control. I needed to ride the throttle as the trains descended or ascended the grades so they didn't stall or run away. The whole process would have been a lot easier with two people! I was not happy with the lack of focus in many shots and I probably should have taken more time to manually set the focus on the tripod shots, but it took a few days to do the video as it was.
I appreciate everyone's nice comments!!!

Love the old trains and the video!

Very nice layout. What video editing software did you use?
Wonderful video. Love the clouds too!
Beautiful video, Terry......while I was watching the video I realized I have seen that layout before, in TM videos.......long ago, the early 90s........if I remember correctly, you are fond of baseball caps, too!

Hi Terry, wow, what a layout! Your post war Lionel fleet fit perfectly on your layout. Their are so many ways to enjoy our hobby and your video proves it. I recall your layout being featured in CTT, please let us know what issue, perhaps a hidden rocket launcher is somewhere in the layout?
Thanks so much for sharing!
Great layout. I like the integration of postwar accessories into the hi-rail layout. And I could almost smell the ozone of the PW trains.
Has this layout ever been in one of the magazines or on video? (when?)
I also like the way the trains come in and out of the scenes - do you have an overview of the track plan?
Another great video. I could smell the old smoke & motors. Excellent idea to do the shutdown sequences at the beginning & end.
Really enjoyable video, love seeing the old trains running again. Nice touch using the shutdown sequence to introduce the post war trains.
Wow, such an excellent video and wonderful layout. Being one of the older members of the forum, it brings back super childhood memories of the trains I ran in the late 40s and 50s. Most of the trains in your video, all operating so wonderfully, were 50 to 60 years old. I wonder if the modern trains we are running today will be around running so well 50 to 60 years from now?
Thank you so much for making and sharing this video with all of us. Jim
Terry's layout was featured in the September 2004 edition of Classic Toy Trains. There is a rocket launcher in the mountain. Fun Stuff!
Boy that is fun! And good motivation for me to do some work on the layout!

Very nice layout. What video editing software did you use? Thank you. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 14 which allows 4K editing.

Thank you. You have a good memory! The video you are talking about is TM's first Toy Train Review in 1991. That was actually a different layout in a different house, and Tom Mc Comas taped late into the night. He was interviewing me and was a little silly with lack of sleep. He saw my hats on display and started to throw hats at me after each question. I probably wore 10 or more hats during that interview. We recreated that scene with his visit to my current layout on his newer TTR series Toy Train Review 3 in 2014.

LOL, yes there is a Lionel 175 rocket launcher buried in the area 51 mountain underneath a sliding lake. The CTT issue was September 2004. The rocket is shown in both videos listed below as well as this video I have posted on YouTube (advance ahead to 5:00 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?...KRbB4Nd4Q&t=242s

Has this layout ever been in one of the magazines or on video? (when?) I have been fortunate to have the layout in CTT's September 2004 issue and OGR's Run 250 June/July 2011. Video of the layout was in OGR's Great Layout Adventures Volume 7 in 2011 and TM's Toy Train Review 3 (the newer TTR series, not the original in the '90s) from 2014. As a matter of OGR fans interest, I have a behind the scenes video on YouTube of Rich Melvin and Jim Barrett when the did my video shoot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwupYJoWZbo
I also like the way the trains come in and out of the scenes - do you have an overview of the track plan? Sure, here ya go-

Hi Jim, I suspect most of us are in the same general age group, but we're never too old to have a happy childhood. I am sure that my modern trains will not last as long as the old classics. Most of the trains shown in this video have had very little work done to them other than cleaning the wheels and basic grease and oil applications. Oh yeah, except the horns, they are very temperamental. I'm not knocking the new stuff as it is very enjoyable also and is so realistic. It will not have the staying power however, and that's why we need both!
Very nice! Fun to watch!
You've done a lot of work on your layout and it looks fantastic.
Thanks for the info regarding the print and video. Today I re-watched TTR #3 - lots of good stuff in that video, in addition to your layout.
COOL idea!!!!
Spectacular layout.
Excellent editing of the video. FAN-tastic transitions!
Terry
Thanks for Sharing. I too remember well your TMBV videos. The first one was part of what got me back into the hobby. Yes all the hats... ;-)
Oldies but goodies. Hanks for sharing.
