VERY informative presentation of NYC's and Long Island's efficient freight railroad! Like their engine color scheme and logo!
How old is this RR? Do they own the track or just have operating rights? Who owned their right of way before they did?

Google is your friend. They apparently started in 1997.
I used to live near the Bethpage station from 1988 until 2003. I always watched the road freight go east between 9 and 10 PM each night. I could see the Stewart Ave crossing from my upstairs, east facing window.
It was a rare reprieve from the near constant parade of boring electric MU trains.
Apart from the NY&A, there were but a handful of diesel powered passenger runs, which left the main line just east of me at "B" tower and followed the Central Branch to its junction with the Montauk line at West Babylon.
Here is a recording I made of an eastbound passenger run on a summer night at the beginning of a thunderstorm.
Those GP38-2s always sounded great.

The tracks & right of way are the MTA - Long Island Railroad.
The MTA/ LIRR sold their freight operations to the NYAR when the LIRR decided to eliminate freight as a revenue service. As a commuter railroad, freight was never given much attention.
Currently the LIRR is adding a third track on their main line from Floral Park, on the Queens- Nassau border, to Hicksville which will allow the NYAR more slots to move trains during the day. Right now they do most of the long hauls to the eastern end of the Island over night. I live near the main line through Mineola and can hear the Geeps roll through every night between 1-2 AM.
More info on the Third Track Project here.
Also a good piece here about the history of the project.
I like the paint scheme too and MTH has done a few nice offerings. I think Charlie at Nassau Hobby has stock.
Thanks for sharing the video Bobby

A bit modern day for me, but I love the video link. Glad to see the take over of the LIRR freight operation is still important and active in the N.Y. area!
Thank you for posting it.
Great video! The NY&A is one of my favorite regional RRs. Are any of the MTH locomotives offerings still available?
