I finished this pair weeks ago but due to my stint in my  wheelchair I was unable to re-assemble them and take some photos.  During the break in the snow today I ran out and took a few photos.

This started out as a WbB F-3 in NH paint.....powered A unit with dummy B. I did the normal body prep by removing logos etc. Then a good coat of Dupli-color #1699 sealer. Tamiya yellow, silver and black for colors. I made the decals as these exact decals I could not find.  The anti-glare green nose panel is a decal too.....worked well.

The chassis frame on these WbB units are cast metal.....and heavy. I thought a dummy B unit would just drag down the train so I pulled a powered WbB F-3 A from my stack of units to be repainted and swapped out the dummy trucks for the powered units....so now I have a powered A and B.....and they will pull stumps with those die cast frames.

I'd love to have the new Atlas F-7 in DRGW paint....they look great....but at almost $1000 I'll make these do. Thanks for looking!!

Looks great, Dave! Do you ever use brushes to paint your models. Like spray the paint into a cup and use it? I need to do some touch ups and detail work and wondered if you have any tips?

YEP! On my recent refurb of a MTH DRGW caboose that was missing some grab irons. After I made new grab irons I sprayed the same paint I used on my F-3 locos from the can into a old plastic cup I have. I then used a fine brush to paint the new grab irons. 3 of the 4 corner grabs are new and painted to match the old. I just spray the paint from the can......some 'decant' the paint but that can cause it to explode.....so I pass on that.

Do you have to do multiple coats?

Dave, excellent work as ususal--especially the decals.  I may ask you do a couple of the anti-glare in yellow for some Texas Special units I have on the shop line.

Also, what masking tape do you use.  Better, how and in what sequence did you mask the bodies?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

I covered masking in one of my how-yo repaints.......the basics.....

For the paint break line I use Tamiya hobby masking tape. Any width that works for you. I then use a good grade regular masking.....I like Shurtape brand. I also use cheap plastic food storage bags to cover areas I want to protect.

I could run you some yellow stripe but only if you are applying to a white surface....otherwise you need to cut white decal paper to go under it.

thx
