This may belong in the real trains section, but I thought it might get better traction here. 
It seems passenger trains are on the rebound!

Decent article.......but something I've known for years.
Since I retired and have a choice how I travel.....trains have been my choice. During my 2011 cross country trip on Amtrak I decided to start documenting my trips. See links to these below my post.
And almost every month since the 2011 trip Amtrak has seen a increase in riders. In January my daughter and I will travel from WV to California via the Amtrak Cardinal, Southwest Chief and Coastliner. I feel it's an asset that's been there all the time....and many are just finding it.
