Thanks for posting the video as it brought back good memories for me. The 1238 and two sisters, the 1278 and 1286, were my introduction to mainline steam railroading in the late 60s when Ross Rowland's High Iron Company ran many passenger specials with these locomotives in the Northeast. The 1278, repainted and renumbered as the Monadnock, Steamtown & Northern 127, was part of Nelson Blount's Steamtown collection and I believe the 1238 and 1286 were owned by George Hart at the time. The Canadian Pacific G-5s performed well on a consistent basis and I recall crewmen, many of whom had worked with steam power of the home roads just 10-15 years earlier, speaking very highly of them. I've attached several images of them in excursion service during that era. The photos of the 127 were taken at stop for a runby on the return trip to Elizabeth and Jersey City from Jim Thorpe on the CNJ in '66. Note the 127 had been modified with an Elesco feedwater heater after its inclusion in the Steamtown collection. I believe Mr. Rowland was once quoted as saying the 127 was the best engine he ever ran.
