NJ HiRailer members come to visit in Massachusetts

Looked like a great time. Wish I could have joined you today or have had you over to my modest layout. Sometimes life commitments and this thing called work get's in the way!

Man I would have thought that a Cook Off might have been in order! Like where does the best pasta come from NewYork/New Jersey or Boston!!.

Ya know Ben had GREEN spray paint there to remind that the JETS will be back next year or the year following or the year following that year...

Marty....looks like you guys had a great time!!  All of the layouts are beautiful and I really like the fantastic looking trees on Carl's layout.  Sure would like to know how he made them!!

 

Also....don't forget that at least two members of the Mid America 3-Railers were there too!! (you and Ben!!)

 

These kind of get togethers is what it is all about.  This is what we are trying to do by establishing members of the Mid America group across the country hoping that they will network with others to enjoy each other's layouts.  Thanks so much guys for the great pictures...wish and hope someday to be able to get with you all...

Looks like a good time was had by all.Man those weathered trains are really growing on me.

Have fun and stay warm.  I bailed on the trip to Springfield tomorrow (today) because of the anticipated icy roads.  Really bad here on the island tonight.  Should have taken the day off and gone up today :-)

The pictures are great and the details on the layout are magnificent. I am sure glad that the people from Jersey had the good sense to leave their Yankee hats at home.

Alan, my home is always open to train people.  Now that I am back on my feet a bit, I enjoyed the day with great train guys and great trains.

 

Lou, the jacket came to me from a relative.

 

Peter, both Dotty and I will try to show you a good time when you visit.  You will have to sign my wall when you visit.

 

David, the Boston Metro HiRailers not only have wide sweeping curves, all curves are banked.  Guys, I am not a member of the club but encourage anyone who might find themselves in the area to pay a visit.  This layout has L-Girder benchwork that would make Lynn Westcott very proud.  This benchwork is a work of art.  Anyone starting a large layout can go to school if they view this layout.

 

I want to thank everyone for the kind words.  My wall does not have JETS on it now and it never will.  It was good to get the Boston guys and New Jersey guys together at the Boston layout. 

 

All the members of the OGR Forum are a great group of people.  As I have stated many times before, everyone is welcome to visit my layout anytime.  

 

 

Alan, Don't forget Carl Chancey (CChan73956 on the forum) and myself, Dotty Perry, are both members of the Mid America 3-Railers, too.

ben, thanks for the LACKAWANNA shot. marty does have good taste, even though the LACKAWANNA never made it to boston. 

Pete, I also love the Lackawanna.  I have a few other Lackawanna locomotives.  I am very big on that railroad and love the colors.

marty, one of these day's I will make the trip up to see your layout. saw your layout spread in the magazine, action in every corner and then some.

Pete, any time you can make it.  I will run some Lackawanna locomotives for you.

I don't know Pete  Either Marty got mad that I sprayed Jets on his wall or he doesn't like Lackawanna  He didn't run any for me

We all had a great time at the BMHR... I did not get a chance to be on the rest of the tour...  Busy setting up at the BMHR for the visit...

 

As Marty pointed out all the curves on the BMHR are banked and they also have transition spirals installed from the tangent track [the straight section] to connect up to the curve section... The transition spiral has a smoothly varying radius... This helps keep the passengers in our passenger trains riding in comfort!!

 

The transition curves were developed using a method in one of John Armstrong's track planning books... really makes the trains look realistic going through and around the curves...

 

I also took some pictures of the joint visit to the BMHR and I will post them tomorrow... Just back from the Big E so it's time to rest from train stuff..

 

 

Jim, you should really be pleased with the BMHR layout. I know Erol and I were really impressed with what you've done and the way it's laid out. Really hope to see it again when we come up.

 

And it was great seeing you yesterday.
