Is this the longest ever NJ Transit 'double-decker' train?
An NJ Transit "MMC Extra" brings 21 brand new multi-level commuter cars west toward Raritan behind NJT 4303 and 4300 on Saturday, November 17th. These cars are desperately needed by NJ Transit since flooding from "Superstorm Sandy" has sidelined a significant amount of their equipment. These cars were ferried south from Bombardier's facility in Plattsburgh, NY as a special Amtrak move over CP, Amtrak and Metro-North rails the day before. It is assumed these cars will be prepared for service at NJT's Raritan facility since the large Meadowlands Maintenance Complex in Kearny, NJ incurred significant storm damage.
