Yesterday I saw and followed the NKP #765 Berkshire, part of the way, on it's return to Ft. Wayne to end it's operating season.  As it has these past few years, the engine toured much of the Eastern part of the U.S. on good will and educational missions in many places.  Having grown up in the age of steam locomotive power, I realize that many people, and not just kids, are seeing and feeling and experiencing the awesome power of big steam for the first time in their lives.

Many thanx to the Ft Wayne crew and it's faithful and selfless volunteers, and many thanx to Norfolk Southern management and employees for making all of this possible.  Realizing that there are actually four wonderful locomotives that have performed on N.S rails, this season, is to recognize real community spirit on the part of the RR.  It has been a great season and I look forward to 2016, wondering what these guys will do for an encore!

Thanks to a lot of local volunteers, too! They worked together and facilitated great excursions!

I rode from Steamtown to East Stroudsburg on Labor Day. The East Stroudsburg Tower was open for us. Guides explained how those tall manual levers worked. They aligned switches, signals and locks. When #765 was returning from a wye south of town, I framed her between two windows

She was moving slowly. I aimed through the open window below and got a "rods down" pose.

I have to thank the OP, Paul Fischer, for providing my "taxi" ride back to the CVSR from Bellevue. Well...it was supposed to be Bellevue, but it was actually Monroeville. A track crew with an undercutter, regulator and tamper were working just west of there and we had to wait in Monroeville until those guys wrapped it up for the day. We ended up re-crewing the 765 in Monroeville around 1800 hours.

2015 was a long, hard season for the locomotive and the crew. My thanks to all who bought tickets and came to ride with us on the many trips we ran this year.
