NKP 765 ROCKY RIVER TO BELLVUE 05/12/13

Wow! I've been given the title "esteemed." How about that! I'm sure The Lovely and Gracious Linda (my wife) will be most impressed.  

 

I plan to be at the throttle when we leave Rocky River for Bellevue. I have not yet had the opportunity to run on that section of the former NKP.

 

Be sure to come up to the engine and say hello.

And even though I named my tax practice the Berkshire Tax Group, I just go by Tony....not Mr. President, as my Member tag may seem to indicate. 

We'll be running the former NKP from Fort Wayne through Bellevue and on to Cleveland. The NKP goes through Leipsic.

since it's somewhat on topic, are you planning on releasing the Employee Trips schedule?

Very excited to have secured a dome car seat after the wait list opened up last night. I'm looking forward to seeing the 765 from this vantage point. I've been lucky enough to run the locomotive, do open air cars right behind 765 and now I get to try something with a bit more class. Rich, I will have to stop by and say hello to you again. If a great box lunch wasn't going to be provided I'd buy you lunch again! See you all in a few weeks.

I, too, wound up with some tickets that were released last night....and am very excited about it.

 

I didn't really want to incur the expense of First Class but I"m already looking forward to the excursion regardless.

For those of us wanting to catch a glimpse, can someone confirm that the departure time from Rocky River on Sunday morning is 9:00am?  Thanks.

It is indeed.  It's been recommended that we show up around 8:30 but actual departure is to be 9:00.

 

I'm personally hoping for a nice turnout for this event.  It's been a long time coming!

Does anyone know if there are any convenient places to see the 765 after it leaves Rocky River on its run to Bellevue?

I would try Dover Road in Bay Village.  There are several establishments near the tracks that have parking lots and probably won't mind if you park/sit there. 

 

If you want to try a Goggle map or equivalent, look up Moose Head or Flat Iron Restaurants in Bay Village, OH.  They are just south of the tracks.

i plan to see the train sat when they do the employee trips. if it is a rockport to fairlane and back trip ,it should take the train right through berea both ways.plus there is plenty of other train traffic to watch. it use to be around 120 in a 24hr perioid. ya,that works for me.-jim

Bob (bobbycakes)- there is a nice stretch of road (about 1.4 miles) that runs right beside the track between Bay Village and Avon Lake with a very clear view. The road is a bit below track level, but the sight lines are pretty clear. Check out mapquest or google or whatever, address 31729 Krebs Road, Avon Lake, Ohio. I have a ticket to ride that excursion, but I also am riding the Horseshoe Curve excursion. If anyone wants to buy my ticket for the Nickel Plate Limited, I would be willing to sell it at face value. I am somewhat disappointed that there will be no open vestibules on the trip- I really enjoy the sounds and smells of steam engines at work, and if I can't do that, I would rather chase the excursion and shoot some video.

The Moosehead is correct, but the name of the restaurant right next door to it is the Ironwood, not the Flat Iron- that one is down in the Cleveland "Flats" area, below the old viaduct  heading west out of Tower City (what used to be known as Terminal Tower).

So here's another dumb question:  Does the locomotive just get to Rocky River that morning or is it parked somewhere near the station overnight so those who aren't riding on Sunday can see it and take some pictures?

The 765 just arrived at the Rockport Yard of the Norfolk Southern.  However, I don't believe that there is any public access there.

 

Your best will probably be Rocky River or Bellevue on Sunday.

i would think the train would have to be secured overnight in a yard like rockport so the n.s. police  could keep an eye on it. any other locations the train would be an easy target for the " paint can goons".-jim
