NKP Berkshire not recognizing Legacy

A product number of the engine might help.

My friend had the same issue , ran seconds on conventional & then dead . Just received it back after weeks at Concord.

Ok, it is product # 6-644123.  This is the NKP Legacy Berkshire # 765.

My guess is that the Antenna wire fell off and the locomotive is not reading the Legacy signal.

Wondering if anyone else has had the problem, and what the fix might be, or was.

That is interesting, and sad.  Did he tell you what they found the problem to be in Concord?
This one has been running in conventional for a few months now.  My friend just got his Legacy System, and found the problem.  We tried it on my layout and it does exactly the same thing.

No Bluetooth on this model from the description. The antenna could be the issue. If you put your hand over it does it receive and signal?

S gauge Legacy engines do not have Bluetooth. They do have DCC. If you know someone with a DCC system try it on their layout. if DCC works then all the boards should be good and it is most likely the antenna. When you say Legacy does not work I assume you mean it does not even see the signal, so when put on the track it takes off at full speed conventional even with the Legacy wire connected to the track and the 990 base powered on.

You assume correctly, the locomotive does not receive a legacy signal, just starts in conventional mode.   It does not take off at full speed, but does everything it is supposed to do in conventional.  Meaning bell & whistle work, forward, neutral and reverse all operate correctly.

Are you powering up the Legacy base first and then the track?

I understand that a board was replaced . They also replaced the engine shell . The front steps were off both sides in the box .

Good morning all, and thank you for your input.

My friend got impatient last night and pulled the shell off his Locomotive.  The problem was, wires unplugged from one of  the PC boards.

He plugged them in, put there shell back on and everything works as it is supposed to.
