I'm at the NMRA National Convention, and just wanted to post a reminder that the organization's 2014 National Train Show opens in Cleveland's New Convention Center tomorrow.

Opens to the public at noon tomorrow (Friday).  Hours, admission fees, etc., for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are at the linked site.

I must say that Cleveland's new Convention Center is quite spectacular, not to mention massive.

Visited the Age of Steam Roundhouse yesterday and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum today…both truly fine venues.  The Age of Steam Roundhouse is not normally open to the public, but thanks to founder Jerry Jacobson, convention participants were able to see this masterful tribute to steam-era railroading.  And my previously unplanned visit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was also well worthwhile, although you really need most of a full day to take in all the sights.  The fact that I have personally, in the past, met/known at least five of the musicians enshrined there sure made me realize I'm an awfully old fellow!

I hope you went through the USS Cod next the the Rock Hall. http://www.usscod.org/

I'd have a long winded reply but I just made it back home. The size of the show was amazing. I've never seen such large displays. For me, O scale was almost poorly represented until I heard a magic voice......

There's just something about when HW tells a story. He has me awestruck as if I saw Santa as a kid.....just a story about his blue ray player not playing his own video. A hearty chuckle and a great sense of humor. Seems he has a much bigger personality in person!

It is so easy to talk to Mike and Andy from MTH. However when I got their attention and maybe got out a question or two, I remembered life on the road and the people I had met. I only enjoyed the ones who made me smile. No sense bending their ear on some gripe or wish. These guys must spend so much time on the road. If I may say, Mike says he travels "over there" like 4 or 5 times a year, (at least?). Plus traveling, shows, product development and such. Still great guys to talk with about what's going on.

Sorry Mike for the losy pic!

Not really much G gauge to speak of there. I saw an ad saying there would be some. There's a Piko display with their new Camelback, one LGB G scale train, and a big Bachmann display.

Not much to buy anyways. MTH had a new looking O scale NYC DF Hudson that was a scale wheeled model. I couldn't get Mike to say it was for sale. My girl was glad about that.

maybe this one?

looks great to me.

York, while great for O scalers, is a little narrow in scope. Thus it's not a public show. The Cleveland show is much more a train show for the 'public' and thus more generic. We forget that while we here on the OGR Forum feel like a big group......we are still a minority scale in a small hobby. There is nothing wrong with that....but I know that going into any 'train' show. I'd like to have attended the show myself......but about to head out to the national Hudson meet......the car not the NYC loco!

The NMRA's National Train Show is indeed a show and not a meet (York is a meet).  The goal of the NMRA event is to expose the public--especially the public--to the scope and diversity of the entire model railroading hobby.  All scales from Z through Large Scale are represented in some form or fashion.  I've never been to a show, meet, or layout in any scale where I couldn't learn something useful that could be applied to my own modeling efforts.

sorry, I was too sleepy to post them all last night!

I took around a hundred shots so....

I missed NCE's booth until I was leaving and saw it from the exit. Digitrax was there too. I didn't see QSI??

(I use DCS anyways but like to stay current)

Lots of different manufacturers that are available and willing to discuss trains!

Man! I forgot to go back to the Fast Tracks booth and get some jigs! Urrggg. I hate being the photo guy.

I have attended 4 NMRA National Conventions and the associated National Train Show.  I have enjoyed all the shows.  I especially like the home and club layout tours.

O gauge is not well represented at most NMRA Conventions because there are not that many O gauge model railroads around.

The Hartford convention in 2009 had the Stamford Club (2 rail O) and another 3 rail club in either northern CT or southern MA open. (I have forgotten the name of this layout.)  Both of these layouts were amazing and well worth the trip.  The Seattle convention had some spectacular ON3 logging and mining layouts on tour.  The San Diego convention had the San Diego 3-rail layout and the San Diego 2 rail club in Balboa park both open.

One of the best thing about the NMRA conventions is that you get to see some amazing layouts in all scales.  I enjoy all of them no matter what the scale.  I also enjoy talking to the vendors.  Rock scenery is rock scenery in all scales.

This convention (Cleveland) is unusual because of the large 3-rail layout shown in the photos at the train show.  I don't recall seeing any other modular 3-rail layouts at any of the NMRA shows that I have attended.  I want to thank the 3-rail modular group for displaying our segment of the hobby.
