MRTM Hosting Convention
The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum and the Bluff City Div. of the National Model Railroad Association are hosting a regional convention of the Mid-Continent and Southeastern Regions of the National Model Railroad Association. The convention will be June 12-15, 2014 with most events at Harding Academy 1100 Cherry Rd. Memphis, Tn. 38117. There will model contests, instructional clinics, offsite model railroad tours, and tours of local transportation sites as well as a train show Saturday and Sunday that is open to the public. Admission to the train show is $8.00 for adults, children under 12 are free. There are about 200 model railroaders from as far away as California coming to Memphis for this convention. The museum is currently developing plans and fundraising for its phase 2 exhibit area. This will triple the size of the museum to 6000 sq. ft. and will include moving the West Tennessee Central Railroad featured in the first two photos above, to the museum. The estimated cost of phase two is $650,000.
The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum opened to the public April 1, 2012 and current operating days and hours are Friday and Saturday 10AM to 5PM and Sunday 12 PM to 5 PM. Other times are by appointment. The museum is a 501c3 non-profit corporation.
The Bluff City Division of the National Model Railroad Association is a 501c4 non-profit corporation.
