No. 264 Fork Lift (Post War) Very loud

I just pulled it out of storage. It runs, but makes an awful racket. I removed the plastic "deck" and I see the motor is that venerable Lionel vibrating sweetie. I cleaned the metal platform the forklift rides on as well as the bottom of the forklift as recommended by Lionel in the instructions. Any suggestions to quiet it down? Also, I noticed all the gears seem to be be plastic, not unlike drive gears in many engines, would a small dollop of lube help in operation?

The first thing I would suggest is to try lowering the voltage. The vibrating armature may be hitting.
