Robert,

From page 171 of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition:

Incorrect Engine Settings

When encountering a speed-related problem, the first thing to do is to check the PS2 engine's menu and soft key settings, including:

• CONTROL Menu MAX SPEED should be set to the fastest speed at which the PS2 engine will be required to operate, or to the default of 120 SMPH

• Soft key FCM-Conventional Mode should be set to OFF

• Soft key FLM-Legacy Mode should be set to OFF. Legacy Mode turns off speed control in a PS2 engine and places the engine into conventional mode until the engine is powered off and then back on again. Ensure that Legacy Mode is off so that speed control is active.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Yeah, that was a new one to me too, but I only own 9 PS2 engines.  I have Barry's book but don't recall reading about turning speed control off.

I don't have the soft keys Barry mentioned either.  The conventional and legacy modes are just numbered items in the "MORE" list.   Once activated, they are on until the loco is powered down.   On the next power up(with DCS) the speed control is back on by default.

But I'm not running the latest software version, so that may be the difference.

Only the first 16 soft keys have their acronyms listed on the engine control screen. To see the FCM or FLM soft key designations, you'd have to renumber those soft keys into the first 16 in the list.

Since I won't be able to look at my remote for 8 more months, is Barry saying that there is a soft key that says SPEED CONTROL with an on/off option???  I often go into the "more" menu and reorg the order to get the ones I use up front so I can use the soft keys.  I don't recall ever seeing a "Speed Control" option.

But maybe I just don't remember seeing it because I would never want to turn it off.

thanks - walt

Walt,

• Soft key FCM-Conventional Mode should be set to OFF

• Soft key FLM-Legacy Mode should be set to OFF. Legacy Mode turns off speed control in a PS2 engine and places the engine into conventional mode until the engine is powered off and then back on again.

The soft keys will appear in the list as Conventional Mode and Legacy Mode.
