Thanks, Charlie. I really love these cars!
Only 100 of these cars will be made, as usual. It was fun doing the research for this. Charlie, thanks a bunch for posting this so quickly. Brian just put this on our website today!
John
Why is the model a plug door when the prototype photos are of a regular sliding door car? Did the prototypes have both types of doors? Weaver makes this car with either style door.
Weaver Models has not yet made a replacement injection mold for the Superior Style Door for the 50' Box Car, so they have to use a plug-door for now.
Andrew
Andrew has it right, Weaver can not supply that door anymore. They told us they have no plans to remake them either. The next series of ELS cars had plug doors, however they were not pillar sided and only one had the billboard lettering. A later series after that had plug doors and pillar sides, but were simply marked "ELS". Because of cost constraits we had to go with Weaver - Atlas would have ended up costing around $90 apiece.
John
John, I'm pretty sure I saw a car very, very similar to this one in Ontonagon two summers ago.
This car will be decorated at the factory? Or maybe the decals will be made available? I'd like to build this boxcar eventually
They will be factory decorated - pad printed. No decals are being used.

Andrew, you asked in another thread last September for an E&LS boxcar. Now you can get one. These ought to be produced in October. Made in the USA!
John
Are they already produced?
In the Atlas HO trainman line there is an E&LS 50' Box car.
Andrew
I don't think you'll see one from Atlas in O anytime soon, but ours should be out in October or November.

Received my cars today. They came out really nice!
Hi, Your address for the order form doesn't open. What's the price and are these modern cars? I model the 50's. Thanks, MilwRdPaul

Paul.. I fixed the link. Thanks.
Anybody else get their cars yet? John23 are you around?
Back from the Northwoods. These cars came out really nice, Buffalo Creek Graphics and Weaver came through for us. They look even better in person than the photos. They are going fast. Remember, only 100 made, and the club always keeps one.

Like "Paul", I need to know the era of these cars, as they look like modern cars,
well after WWII? I have liked the others I have received.
Gentlemen,
Great looking Box car no doubt about it!
PCRR/Dave
This is a more modern car and a was a departure from the earlier era cars the club has done. They are however a fabulous addition to anyone's layout who is modeling the Great Lakes area. I would not part with my set.
Stay tuned as the 2014 cars are in the works and I think another home run for John23 and his Northern Michigan com padres.
I can understand that. I'll keep asking on the Wanted Forum. Thanks for the reply.

The E&LS cars were built in the 1970's and used into the late 90's/early 2000's.
Still a handful of the woodsided Detroit & Mackinac reefers left. Those were two different number cars, and with differences in the graphics, as per the prototype.
Our 2014 car will also be steam era and very cool! Announcement early this summer.
