I have 2 proto 2 mth engines that have been sitting on a sidding for about a year and not run. Today I tried to run them and nothing worked. I did the find loco setting and it said locos were inactive. Is that because most likely the batteries discarged? I can take the 9 volt out and charge it but the other one has the rechargeable battery in the engine and is a 2 volt or whatever. If this is the case how long do I need to leave the engines on the track with 18 volts on it to charge them up.

You need to be specific regarding what you are attempting to do with the engines and what actually happens as a result.
Barry it right, you need to describe exactly what you're trying to do and what steps you've taken.
I'd let them sit on the powered track for at least an hour and try to fire them up again.
So what happened with the one you did charge?
Is the other loco a steamer or a diesel? Is there a charging port on loco or, if a steamer, tender?
I tend to agree with GRJ about sitting for an hour and then trying it.
Be sure rollers haven't acquired a layer of corrosion.
Have you tried applying power to only one of these locos, and no other locos powered on layout, and then trying ADD ENGINE?
Did you try moving the engines from the inactive file to the active file in the remote?
I am trying to power on the locos. The 9 volt is still in the charger over night. moving one engine to main line with nothing on it but passenger cars and a tmcc engine did not help call it up or locate it,. both are steamers,.
