Is it feasible for the moderators/administrators to notify a thread's starter that the thread has been moved?
I ask because two popular threads that I started, one on 12/23 and the other on 12/24, were moved today from the Hi-Rail forum to the Real Trains forum. I learned that the second thread, "More F unit photos in color," had been moved only after I tried to find it in the Hi-Rail forum for the purpose of uploading more color photos and, after going through several pages of Hi-Rail forum topics, thought to look in the Real Trains forum where I found it. After learning of this moved thread, I looked in Real Trains for the first thread, "EMD F unit builder photos" and found that it too had been moved from the Hi-Rail forum.
So, threads started on 12/23 and 12/24, receiving many "likes" for topics and replies, received many replies with great photos and other content, only to be moved after 3 or 4 days was confusing. Adding to my confusion is the fact that on 12/24, Martin H replied in the F unit builder photo thread and asked why I hadn't started the thread in the Real Trains forum. I replied to his question explaining that putting the prototype photos in Hi-Rail would allow viewers to compare the features of the models offered in F units to prototypes and consider the level of accuracy of the models. I also said that including the prototypes in Hi-Rail would help members, like myself, who are interested in adding details to commercially available F unit models that were not included by vendors in the past or, perhaps, currently.
What I could also have said to Martin H is that while these two threads contained photos of real trains, they contained virtually nothing else. There was no information about the different F unit models EMD produced; the utilization of the F units for passenger or freight service; years of operation; and a host of other factual information about any given model or railroad's use of same.
I am moderately familiar with the terms of service. I even quoted number 8 in a reply to a thread complaining about the prohibition against identifying by name a vendor who has failed in some respect to satisfy a forum member's expectations. So I realize that moving a thread, let alone notifying the thread starter that a thread has been moved, resides in the discretion of the forum's moderators and administrators.
Do I disagree with the decision to move these two threads after they had been up and running for 3 or 4 days? Yes. Am I confused about the administration of the forum when threads run for several days with a good bit of activity and then are moved? Yes.
But my real question is simply this: is it feasible to notify a thread starter that a thread has been moved? Not giving notice struck me as simple rudeness on the forum's part in contrast to the collegial and mutually supportive and encouraging activities and tone of the Hi-Rail forum especially.
