Is there anywhere to purchase command control conversions?

Yes. ElectricRR.com.
Exactly which engine do you want to upgrade?
Thanks Chess,
A repainted no-box 2340 GG1. Just want to run a childhood toy from the hand-held.
Yes; Weaver Models does the conversions using ERR cruise control. Ask for Gary (Service Dept.) at Weaver's phone no.570-473-9434.

Unless you really want to upgrade the PW Lionel model, it may be more cost effective to buy a brand new Railking model w/PS3. It has automatically operating pantographs too!
It'll certainly be more cost effective if you're going to have someone else do it. If you can convert it yourself, it can be pretty inexpensive. At a minimum, all you need is the ERR AC Commander, MSRP $69.95. Boxcar Bill here on the forum will sell you one at a discount, not sure what the exact price would be.
Installing the AC Commander is a piece of cake, if you can follow basic instructions you should be fine.
Fitting an AC Commander into a traditional size GG1 (which I think the 2340 is) is very tight on space, so it requires some mechanical work to get it to fit. See https://ogrforum.com/d...589#9173459912892589 for a couple of different approaches. There are photos of what I did and photos of what another forumite did. It can definitely be done, but it's not quite as easy as some other engines that have more space.
Thanks for all the advice. DD made a little board that I was going to go with...someday that looked like it would've fit. I cannot remember the model, but it kind-of folded over on itself. Never seemed to have finances at the right time. I did my 736 Berk and a 1974 GP9 with a board that was old Lionel stock, and really enjoy running them off the Cab1. And I don't necessarily want to do sound. but I have thought about a sound board in a baggage car someday and seeing how someday worked out the first time...
Maybe I'll rewire the old F-N-R selector, but need another PW GG1 to follow the routing.
From the picture below, I'd consider mounting the AC Commander on one of the ends, looks like more room than in the middle. The lights are easily dealt with by removing the light sockets and putting the directional lights directly in the light bezels. Personally I use LED's, but you could also just hot-glue some small incandescent bulbs right at the light bezel.
