The 765 made a great showing moving north through Goshen, IN, yesterday on  its way to Elkhart to host an appreciation excursion for NS employees and their wives. It was great seeing it again and it put one a spectacular sound (bell, whistle, real steam) and sight (more smoke than I've seen for a long time) show.  I was more anxious to see and feel it than take any pictures but Twitter and You Tube have plenty. Thanks for your efforts, not only for this wonderful web site, but also with the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society.  Were you at the throttle Saturday?  I caught up with the 765 at two Goshen locations.  The people in the excursion cars sure looked happy; glad to see so many children.  Also pleased that you didn't need diesel support.  You seemed to have all the horsepower you needed to haul that long string of passenger cars.  Keep up the good work. Dick,

You don't really need a diesel to help a steam engine that has 4,500 horsepower. I remember in a video on YouTube with Rich and he was talking about how he operates 765. Rich said, "When they were running through the New River Gorge, they pulled trains upwards of 30-34 cars with 765." Rich if you would like to add more about the trips you did through the New River Gorge.

Sigh...for the 100th time...

We don't use a diesel for "support." We use it to stretch the coal mileage on long deadhead moves.

In the 80's and 90's we routinely pulled 34 car passenger trains on 1% grades, with no diesel! With only 15 cars on the Water Level Route she hardly broke a sweat.

Dick, I'm sorry I didn't return your call. I had already left the office for the weekend when your call came in. I listened to your message this morning when I got back to the office. Glad to see you were able to see the 765 in person.
