I am a little confused by the complex trackage around Albany/Schenectady.  With the new deal will NS have a directly owned route to Mechanicville and PanAm? Or will CP trackage rights still be involved?  I see what might be options for but CP and NS to have trackage into Mechanicville

Mike;

Trackage rights will still be involved from where the D&H south line merges with the CP main (southwest of the airport) over to Mechanicville.  CP is still maintaining access to the Port of Albany for oil shipments as well as running into Mechanicville.

I would not be surprised to see some sort of secondary deal with NS in the relatively near future for the trackage from the CP main to Mechanicville.  Access to the Port seems pretty certain to remain under CP's control because of the oil traffic.

Is this the junction in downtown Schenectady?  PanAm's line loops through there too.  I am always confused by who's track is what in this area.  Looks like the Pan Am line is combined between the junction at Schenectady and Mechanicville with the CP/D&H.  Was the B&M abandoned by Guilford in favor of a combined route?  The Pan Am splits off again..perhaps NS can use that as their exclusive connection from the D&H south line around Schenectady.

Does CP still have the intermodal terminal in Albany?
