First, I was down at the NS Roanoke shops today, and noticed that all, if not most, of the NS Dash8.5 locomotives were there in either fresh paint or without parts of their long hoods. What is the reason for this? I thought Ns canceled this program after failed results. There was even a unit with conrail paint still on most of the unit. Second, I saw NS BP4 999 (Failed Battery Powered Unit), and it is sitting on a track with a caboose next to a road. The question is, why are the number boards out of the locomotive? I understand that it has been out of service for quite a while now. Third, who owns the Conrail SDP45 (6670), NKP GP7 (532), the RM&P E8 (1002), and the NS slug from a Virginian FM unit (9914)? I know VMT had them at one point, but why are they in an NS yard with various other equipment that is rostered on the museum website (example: NS 999000 MoW car, SOU W. Graham Claytor Jr.) Also, why was the NKP 532 at the NS Turntable/Shaffer's crossing facility.
I will post pictures.
