Details are sketchy at present time but this afternoon, a Norfolk Southern train of empty ethanol tankers rear ended a stopped intermodal train near Sewickley, PA - north of Pittsburgh, PA on the main to Conway Yard.
The lead NS engine was followed by two Union pacific engines - all the engines derailed but the buffer car and the tankers did not.The engines did catch fire but appeared to be minimal damage.
Three NS employees were injured in the lead unit. The immediate are was evacuated but later allowed to return to their homes and businesses.
The intermodal cars involved in the collision were empty. No other details known on the cause.
