I recieved in the mail today my regular once a month Railfan & Railroad magazine. They have an article titled "Norfolk Southern Restores a GG1 for the Hertiage Fleet". I want to know if this is true or was this an april fools joke or not?

Obviously an April Fools Joke! Why? Because, NS doesn't have a GG!, doesn't have any overhead electrification to operate a GG1, and finally, ALL GG1s had to have their PCB loaded transformers environmentally drained, thus NEVER to operate again.

And right under that...
"Along the left margin of the photo it credits Steve Barry and then says April Fool photoshopped by Alexander B. Craghead".
Oh well.

The other thing about the GG1 is their frames would be warped and rusted out from over 50 years of aging. You would have to start brand new for a GG1 today. Also like another person mentioned their electrical system has to be updated because of hazardous chemicals used in their transformers.
Get a model of the GG1 and be happy!
