What is the point of the expensive new Homewood WYE over the PA Turnpike if that is not the main NS line to Youngstown...which comes off the main at New Brighton? Are they planning for something further down the road?

Might be more appropriate to ask NS.
The Pa. Turnpike is replacing bridges along the length of the turnpike and I think that had something to do with replacing the bridges in question although I could be wrong. The NS uses that Wye to connect to New Castle , Pa.
Homewood Jct is one of my favorite spots to railfan.
Got this off the Pa. Turnpike website "Project Overview"
Two of the overhead structures (WB-207, WB-208) carry Norfolk Southern Railroad and have been replaced under an early action contract, completed in November of 2015. The replacement structures are two span, steel, thru-girder bridges.
Thanks. I guess it was just a case of Penn DOT...if you are going to need to replace our bridges you better build back anything we might need. Any industries off that branch can be served off the Youngstown line a few miles north. I always feel like there are railfans on this forum "in the know" of local RR infrastructure past and present. Not being local I rely on this forum for info.
