The brown paint on my O-27 track ties is chipping off. I just bought the track about a year ago and recently started to use it. No trains have been on this track. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks. Tyler.

Made and painted in China?
Larry
came from china?? must be lead paint
I would be willing to bet that there was some type of residue (like oil) on the cross tie stampings before the brown coating was applied. I have had similar problems when I painted something that was not thoroughly cleaned first.
Get a brown magic marker and touch it up.
Same thing on my track...as long as it works, I don't really care.

Ditto.
Lionel89, I use 027 exclusively and have ever since I've been back in the hobby. What you show has not happened to me. It's an issue of what Bob Severin said and not where the track is produced.
Long before Lionel moved all production overseas around 2000, many items including 027 track had long been made in China, and before that, Hong Kong. I have Lionel 027 switches made in Hong Kong, while the factory in Michigan was still in operation.
Even one of my first Lionel sets, when I re-entered the hobby again, though the box is printed "Made in America" on the casting of the steam engine are printed the words "Made in Macau" so Lionel was obviously having parts sub-contracted for quite some time.
I've had to touch up ties from my own carelessness, and either a brown Sharpie marker or a brown paint pen will make easy work of it. Maybe take a small rag with some isopropyl alcohol and quickly wipe the area that is missing paint first, just to remove any possible oil that might still remain.
Just use the track the way it is.It will still work.Nobody that sees it is going to notice it and condemn you lol.

While possible, Lead Paint actually sticks and lasts much better than modern replacements.
Some progress, Yes?
