I am aware that this is a rookie question, for which my apologies, but I'd be glad for some help. I picked up a Bachmann O Gauge train (Greyhound) for my kids for Christmas. I'm just setting it up, and the train is halting (and shutting off entirely) at a particular point in the tracks. I see that the curved track section where it's halting does not have a middle connection, and I presume that is the problem ( is that right?). I'm sure I can call Bachmann to replace the missing connector (a PIN?), but I have a week to figure this out, as I am hopeful that Santa will have the train coming out from under the tree with smoke billowing and whistle blowing. Can anyone suggest a quick solution? I've ordered more track on the hope that I'll get that in time. Also, Bachmann advises using light gear oil before use but provides no oil. Again, I've ordered it, but is this essential? Thank you! I will hope to have more seasoned questions next time.

Im not really familiar with Bachmann O gauge train tracks but most brands are pretty similar in function. It should still provide current since the rest of the rail is getting current. If they are the same, I would suggest removing a pin from an outer rail and place it in the center rail to see if it helps. The outer rails are the ground and you should still have ground from either of the outer tracks. Hope this helps. Another thing you could try is cleaning the track since it is new, it could be coated with a rust preventative from the factory.
Thank you: I'll try that!
There are two types of track used by Bachman/Williams. Do you have the Lionel looking tin plate, or the plastic based track that looks similar to Fast track?

This set came with Atlas Industrial Rail. My local dealer doesn't have the pins, which are somewhat different from the older, rounded pins. For now, I have a bit of copper tubing that I think should help me in this pinch....
Thanks very much to everyone for the help on these issues. For now, I've taken the easy route and just shortened the track by two pieces, including the piece missing the middle pin. I trust that I will be able to replace the missing pin and use these pieces eventually. In any case, the train is rolling and I will hope that the additional track I ordered arrives soon.
usually track lock-on's only ground one outside rail.
When we were kids and needed a pin, we would get a common nail and cut off the head. They worked fine and I occasionally find a piece with a nail still it it after 50 years.
