Things of wee stature/size probably like to hear that size doesn't matter...

In O gauge, as far as diesel electrics are concerned, I have yet to see anything as big and bold as the 80 and 90(43) MACs! I've seen pictures of EMD's DDA40X's, but they do nothing for me.

I have two MTH Premier BIG MACs, an NS SD80MAC(20-2874-1) and a CP SD 9043 MAC(20-2875-1). These SIZE-MASTERS make everything else, locomotive wise, seem appropriate for the kids table... when viewed side-by-side. Their voices seem to fit their grand physical presence, too.

My MAC's were from MTH's 2008 Vol. one catalog. I had the CSX SD80MAC ordered, as well, but I didn't take it. Re-installing the shell was too difficult...

That was the first time I pre-ordered 3 models from one page of an O gauge catalog.

BTW,I bought big from that particular MTH catalog. Besides the MACs, I went with the CP F7 ABA set; 3 ES44AC's(GE, CP and UP); a CN SD40-3 Tunnel Motor; the grey UP AC4400CW; BNSF AC6000CW and a Pennsylvania P5a(box cab).

Those were the days... lots to like.

If, down the road, MTH offers the BIG MACs in 3.0... they might be worth a look... I'd be looking at the UP SD9043 MAC and/or the CSX SD80MAC.

I have 2 SD90's, one BNSF and NS. Great locos both with proto 2 and they could pull down a house. Been getting some SD70ACs and ES44's and believe me the heritage schemes will hurt my wallet big time. Time to sell some excess as the heritage engines are released. They should be some great engines.

Even though O scale GE AC6000CW's are models of the 6000hp prototype, the Kings of Beasts, the 5000hp SD80MAC's and their almost twins... the 4,300hp SD9043's and the 6000hp SD90MAC's, are O gauges biggest models of single prime mover locomotives.

O scale models of AC4400CW's and GEVO's look small next to the MAC's. Even the biggest O scale GE models... the AC6000CW's.

My 80 and 9043 MAC's are currently in a consist, and their combined length is a little over 41"... outer coupler tip to tip. That is a massive O scale traction package.

Some people have a preference for the group thing. They take pleasure from more than one...

I'm not talking about a combo thing, like Nicole. Just straight one-on-one(one prime mover to one locomotive platform) action.

Groupies: those that prefer the more-the-merrier approach, the group thing..., when it comes to big units, are basically getting their kicks from two or more...

Taking pleasure from big twin-engined units, such as Nicole's 88'2" EMD DD-35A's, GE's U50's and EMD's DDA40X's, isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just different.
