O Scale CSX Engine and Car Servicing Building
I have built a very large modern engine and car serving building for my CSX equipment. A photo of a typical prototype engine or car service building is shown.
This custom built O scale diesel shop or car shop is adapted from a prototypical diesel service building. This O scale model is a scale 100 feet wide by 80 feet long by 44 feet high. Actually two nearly identical buildings have been made. When placed end to end the two buildings are a scale 160 feet in length. Only the two center bays of each building are intended for through tracks. The two outer bays are stub ended. The model is designed to straddle two tracks with track spacing of 24 scale feet between centers. The model also has extensive interior lighting and detailing. All bays have simulated "roll up" doors. The side service entrances also have simulated "roll up" doors. The roof is removable for access to the interior. The interior has prototypical roof beams and heavy side pillars. The model can be completely dis-assembled for easy storage. The building is made from 3/16 inch foam board purchased from art stores. It is very light weight but also very sturdy.
Note: The photos show only one building although I have actually built two nearly identical structures which can be placed end-to-end to make a scale 100 foot wide by 160 foot long diesel house.
The prototype photo attached was used as a guide for determining building proportions in constructing the model.
