I wouldn't want it to steal the scene either. My basic thought on scenery is that it isn't part of my collection; so while I won't put cr@p on my layout I won't buy a fleet of >$100 autos either. I may splurge for one scene with a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief hardtop; but otherwise it's the more reasonable version for me.

I also like the Brooklin models, just don't like the full retail prices. I wait and try to find them at reasonable prices.

While none of these apply to my era, and the comments about prices are correct, there

is about no other source that builds plain-Jane coupes and sedans as actually seen on

streets, other than Hollywood and Vine.  Like K-Line's passing is lamented, so is that for

the $35.00 Rextoys.

$100 + is a little much for most people. I collect 1/43 model cars because I enjoy them, besides I cant afford to buy the real ones. That happens to be the right size for O scale. Being a former scale modeler I don’t think of my equipment as a collection, I look at everything, locomotives, buildings, scenery, motor vehicles etc. as a miniature railroad.
I have many quality vehicles that are in the $5 to $10 range. I am not going to weather  or repaint a high dollar model, but the less expensive ones, all bets are off.

What year and make cars would you like to see for under $100.00?

That's what is so great about this hobby; for most of it there is no right or wrong. On OGR we can share our creations and thoughts to the betterment of all.

 

That is a great scene; the detail is incredible.

 

Late '40s, toe mid '50s Chevys Fords Plymouths, Hudsons etc. Not just coupes and convertibles but common family models.

There are some out available, but not much of a verity.

 

Cars of the mid to late 1930's - sedans and business coupes. Chevys, Buicks, Dodges, - inexpensive and mid-line cars, not luxury makes like a Cadillac or Packard. There are plenty of Fords out there, model A's, model B's, and later, and you can find a Chrysler Airflow, but not much for the other non-luxury makes. I like the "business coupe" - Brooklin has made a few but nobody else that I recall. Also cars of the early 1950's, the steam/diesel transition era.

American Excellence/Neo nice models under $100.00.

IXO Premium X under $100.00.

All of these can be found on ebay or when I list on the forum buy/sell. If you don't do ebay that's your loss. If you go by brand names I listed there should be no problems. Beware of those selling a line called Signature with opening features they get them from mail at home catalogs and are 1:32.

Aw, geez. I hadn't planned on this. We had a '55 Packard growing up. In fact, after Packard went belly up, my dad bought a second one for parts. Those two cars are long gone, but a model of it will be a nice reminder. Besides, it will look good pacing the Hiawatha.

Although I have 7 Brooklins, I paid for professional detailing on most of them. Of the 6 Brooklins you showed, 4 of them have no chrome (silver) window trim. Other body trim is "missing" from many Brooklin models. Quite a shortcoming, IMO, for a model costing $125.

The last picture is a 1950 Dodge Wayfarer coupe. Dodge also made a roadster version with side curtains. I think later years they had roll up windows. Only Chrysler and Studebaker built coups after WWII excluding imports or sportscars.
Years ago a buddy of mine had one. It was a fun car but a slug performer with that flathead six.

 

 

 

Brooklin announced a model of the roadster but apparently they withdrew it.

I should have taken a picture.  During my business trip this week I toured the east side of Manhattan looking at Superstorm Sandy damage (I'm working as a consultant to a NY State commission evaluating storm hardening policies for NYC).  There, near the corner of 13th and Ave C, was a black Dodge Wayfarer, faded paint, tattered upholstery, sun-bleached plastic in the interior and chrome with tiny pits - looking good for 60 years but showing its age!  (It was just parked on the street and looking very much like it had had that parking space since the '50s).  I don't know whwether it had survived the storm or was brought in by someone as the only replacement he/she had for their newer car that was carried away by the rip tides.  When I drew everyone's attention to it one of the young engineers with me added:"I'm not sure my Mom was alive when that was made."  Oh brother, did I feel old!!!
