Yesterday was Halloween so I thought today’s subject should be about hearses. I only have two in my collection.

Motor12

The first is a 1938 LaSalle from IXO and is part of the James Bond collection.

The second is a 1937 Studebaker from Phoenix Mint.

American Excellence and Brooklin have a number available, but none are inexpensive.

Hearses were built on stretched chassis usually by independent coach builders like Henney, Miller, Superior and others. Early ambulances used the same basic designs and many retired hearses ended up as ambulances.

Let’s see your hearses or cemeteries.

I don't have a single hearse, come to think of it.  Closest I have is this Solido 1931 V16 Cadillac: this is a police car version but they offer it in ambulance and hearse.  It's a monster - so big I thought it might be ought of scale but no, they were just really, really big.  It is also almost 25 years before the time period I model on my layout.  But I got it and have it on the shelf because I remember my dad talking to me about  the balancing of piston weights and forces inside piston engines - about how it really wasn't done that well on automobiles until after WWII, and the result was that pre-war, the only way to get a smooth running engine was to use lots of cylinders.  He always thought the Cadillac V16 was a very fine engine.

Here is a custom built flower car in my collection- the flower car!Which today are becoming dinosaurs in my profession as funeral service reinvents it self to adopt to a changing society, its more cost effective to use a minivan as a multipurpose vehicle. To build one you remove the hardtop, cut, ad flowers and yes added headlights to lead the procession! You can use a el camino or similar vehicle to serve the same purpose
