O Scale West

OK, dumb question; The NFL Super Bowl is February 7, 2016 in Santa Clara, CA. How does that interfere with O Scale West?

And for the weeks before and after the Super Bowl, hotel rates will be sky high and there will be no parking, etc.

The Kohs website says that O Scale West is scheduled for May 5-7, 2016.  This also my recollection of what was said at OSW 2015.

Mo Mike, sounds awful that one has to select vacations SOOOO far in advance. I thought I had it bad picking in Nov. With 500 employees and mid to better seniority I still never got Xmas. But a May day should be somewhat good weather in the bay area. San Francisco seems always foggy in summer and Mark Twain can attest to that. I have never been to West but I should try and make an appear.-

Everyone asked was happy with the 5-7 May dates; It's actually only open 6-7, 5 is setup time.

Everyone that has had bookings of the convention center not during the 2-3 week Super Bowl period still had their regular bookings so there was no way to move it around.  The closest available venue during the period was Sacramento and it was still significantly more expensive.

OBTW,  rooms at the OSW venue hotel are already sold out at well over $1K per person per night for at least the week before and after the Super Bowl.  Me I'm just getting out of town.

Smart move, Richard. The Super Bowl is mostly a gathering of the rich and famous to see and be seen. Not many football fans at that debacle which has moments of football surrounded by commercials.

I recall that in 2001 Baltimore won the Souper Bowl and a local politico named Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (yes, from THAT Kennedy clan) was asked what she thought. Her reply was "I liked it when they scored a football."

My read is that many Souper Bowl attendees don't even know the starting pitchers' names.

1K a night, Gee, rent the house out and score some nice trains afterwards. 

That's 1k during the Super Bowl.

The OSW rates are closer to $110 to $120 per night.

Apparently you missed the revised dates listed above, i.e. it is now scheduled for May 5-7, 2016, which is well after the March Meet in the Chicago area.

One of the rasons I wanted to confirm the dates is because I usually book reservations at the Hyatt for two nights.  This past year I could only get the group rate for one night as the the OSW block of rooms was sold out for the other night. I had tp pay $200 for the standard night for the other day.   I just called the Hyatt to book my room well in advance for May 2016, and I'm told they are already sold out completely for that time period.  No rooms available.  The person I talked to said rooms may be available for the group rate if OSW has already blocked them out, and that I had to wait and see.  Arrrrgh. So frustrating!

I just spoke with Rod Miller about this and he's going to check it out for us.  At this time he believes it's all just a screw up (my words, not his) by the hotel.
