I am putting together a train of rolling stock of things I like. From Bosco to Crisco. My layout is O27. What would be the best engine to pull a fairly hefty string of cars? My first thought was a WBB switcher, but I thought I would ask the experienced modelers here first. Thanks in advance.

You are sure to get a lot of responses but for its size and price point a Williams NW2 will out pull most steam engines for sure including smaller scale ones and it will run on 027.
I think its the smallest engine Williams makes with two motors. The 44 tonners I believe have only one motor.

I'm a big fan of Williams locos and have 20 of their various Western Maryland diesels. They run and look great and can easily be upgraded to TMCC I've never run then on 027 but I'm sure others have. I'm pretty sure the SW2 switchers, Geeps & BL2's would run on 027. You can't go wrong with WBB.
My Williams GP7 and F7 run great on 0-27 and I agree, are excellent pullers. I'm also using PW 681 for about a dozen cars on 0-27 without difficulty. Same with a PW 2046.

Bill all my PW locos will run on 027.
I MUST AGREE WITH ALL ABOVE ,I HAVE A WILLIAMS GP THAT IS IN A COLLECTABLES STORE AND RUNS 8 TO 12 HOURS A DAY PULLING 12 OR MORE CARS. IN 6 MOS. NEVER HAVE HAD A BREAKDOWN , JUST WEEKLY LUBE.
I would put in a vote for an MTH Protosound 1 engine with speed control. I didn't think Proto 1 engines had it, but apparently many do! Any MTH, with dual can motors, and speed control would pull any 0-27 train until the cars become the limitation and pull off the track in curves!

A Williams GP-7 or GP-9 or GP-38 works well on 027 and looks good as well going around the corners. The Williams Baldwin Sharks engines will run on 027 as well. The SD-45's by Williams will run on 027 but run better and or at faster speed on 042 curves and switches.
