odd coupler behavior

My recollection is that when upgrading to PS2, the coupler has to be changed to the one that comes in the kit, as earlier ones are not compatible.  All MTH couplers are not electrically the same.

PS/1 couplers have a higher impedance and were designed for higher voltages at lower currents than the PS/2 coupler.  They "sometimes" work, but the correct PS/2 impedance coupler will work properly all the time.

I have the correct shorter coupler if you need one. E-mail in profile.  G

John and George, I had a fellow give me an MTH gold hudson to upgrade to PS-2.   I left the PS-1 rear coupler on for looks (silver plated) and it would fire at 12-13 volts.  It would not fire less than that or more.

That's certainly odd.  I know they've been less than reliable for me on the PS/2 upgrades, so I make a point of putting real PS/2 couplers on.

I spent time with that.  Not always 100 percent.  You would get it to open 8 out of 10 times.  Bottom line, I was able to keep the old coupler with the engine.

Hmm...  I figure for the low price of couplers that I'd like them to work 10 out of 10 times.
